02 October 2025 - Info for our Mountain Bike riders! 🚴

Dear Mountain Bike riders,

As you know, you can choose between Gravel and MTB routes. Here’s what you need to know:

1) Marking:
All MTB routes are fully signposted – unlike the Gravel routes, for which we only provide GPX files

Tip: download the GPX files from our website at the very last moment possible, as routes might be updated (e.g. due to storm damage). You can of course use them earlier for training rides.

2) E-Bikes welcome:
All distances (40 km, 62 km, 76 km) can be ridden on an e-bike (For the marathon distance, make sure to monitor your battery level carefully).
E-bikes are not allowed in the races (but honestly, they wouldn’t stand a chance against the real racers).

3) Gravel bikes:
Not permitted in the races.

4) Behavior & safety:

  • Roads are open to traffic → obey traffic rules!
  • Be respectful toward other riders, hikers, and road users.
  • The forest is not fully closed off – share the trails.

5) Race start:
Do not overtake the police escort before the official start.

6) Road crossings:

  • Some crossings are secured by the police, others by volunteers (huge thanks to them).
  • Please note: non-timed routes are not marshalled or secured. – Extra caution is required.

7) Course profile:
Our marathon routes are not just forest roads – they get more technical and “trail-like” as the distance increases.

  • Chicken lines are available.
  • Golden rule: If in doubt → get off the bike! Stay safe and avoid a crash that could ruin your season.

8) Registration:
Online only (Visa card payment).
Cash is only for food & drinks at the Food Village.

9) Service:
Bike Wash available on-site.

Enjoy the ride and have fun!

Sometimes everything seems to go wrong – or at least not quite the way you planned it. 😅

First, getting to the meeting point was more complicated than expected because of a detour. Then we found out that the restaurant where we had planned to grab something after the ride was closed.

And honestly, with all these obstacles, we thought nobody would even show up…

But despite the detour, a few riders still made it to the start – including some familiar faces. 💪

We started in Esch, in the Ellergronn nature reserve, near the former Cockerill mine. From there, we passed by the Maison Rosati and headed towards Rumelange.

Along the way, we got a glimpse of the Cimalux quarry, before turning towards the Rumelange shooting range and the Mining Museum. We even spotted what looked like a brand-new lift station for the quarry…

Okay, okay… 😜 just kidding! It only looked like one.

The ride then took us through the “Grand Canyon” between Rumelange and the Léihrächen monument, where we eventually decided together that it was time to slowly head back towards Schifflange and Esch.

And then, near the animal shelter in Esch, we encountered two little wild boars! 🐗🐗

Well… not quite. They were just life-size decoys left behind from an archery event. 😂

After the ride, we enjoyed our usual refreshing #afterworkbikeride beer from #BattinBeer 🍻.

And since our original restaurant was closed, we simply changed plans and headed to the nearby Gambrinus pub, where we ended up having an excellent meal.

Not everything went according to plan.
But the ride, the trails and the company were definitely worth it!
